Library Assistant

LibGig, an LAC Group Company is seeking a Library Assistant for a full-time position working in a Middle School library with the librarian, faculty and students.   We are looking for an energetic and dedicated library assistant who is able to support the library for the 2017-2018 school year (August-June).  This position works Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 4:00pm during regular school days.  This position offers full-benefits and is an excellent opportunity for someone with library experience and a desire to work in a middle school library. 
  • Assist students and teachers with book selection, research needs and circulation;
  • Check-in items; examine material for damage and/or wear; withdraw or repair as needed in consultation with the Librarian;
  • Shelve materials; shift books as needed;
  • Maintain book displays & bulletin boards including diversity, student selections, new books, graphic novels, etc.;
  • Process new items for use in collection;
  • Generate and distribute overdue notices; Bill for lost library items; credit for returned items;
  • Oversee the print periodical collection including maintaining accurate records on receipt of all issues and display.  Maintain back issues per collection procedure.  Contact serials provider to claim missing issues.  Arrange for vacation holds;
  • Laminate items for the librarian and middle school faculty;
  • Withdraw weeded items from the online catalog;
  • Support the middle school librarian in all areas, including calendar reminders, library-sponsored activities and interlibrary loans;
  • Update supplementary reading lists and summer reading lists;
  • Work closely with parent volunteers;
  • Collaborate and participate within the department as needed;
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred;
  • Technologically experienced;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft & Google products;
  • Database management experience;
  • Experience searching library databases and e-journals;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills appropriate for various age groups;
  • Great at multitasking with the ability to handle multiple projects at once;
  • Team player;
  • Self-starter with initiative;
  • Previous library experience, preferred
